An-Nadaa in its mission to empower communities through quality education, healthcare, improved well-being, and quality of life strives to help communities to establish the five daily prayers by building Masaajid. Salah is the second most important pillar in Islam after the shahadah and it is of paramount importance to An-Nadaa to assist communities by building Masaajid in their locality.
The Muslim community of Nsukka, in Enugu State in Southern Nigeria, have been struggling for decades to realise the dream of the founding fathers of the Muslim community of the University Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) of having a befitting masjid for the ever-increasing Muslim minority population.
An interesting detail about the “long-awaited masjid” was that several foundations were laid for it, at least three different times – in 1966, 1982 and 1986. In 1966, history has it that the first chancellor of the university, the Late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Dr. Ado Bayero, laid the foundation stone of the masjid at the first portion of land that was initially given to the Muslims along the major gate of the university, though the land was later revoked.
The Ummah continues to make follow-ups and several attempts through the university chancellors and some notable Muslims who come for awards of honorary degrees conferred on them by the university to ensure completion of the masjid project. Several promises were made but none of them could see the project through completion.
The University of Nigeria Muslim Community has proven its resilience and dedication to the masjid project. The few Muslims staff of the university have been very consistent in putting a few blocks every year up till the present state of the masjid. A helping hand will assist them to complete their mission in shaa Allah! We look forward to your support in this noble endavour.
Mahmud b. Labid reported: When 'Uthman b. 'Affan intended to build the mosque (of the Prophet) the people did not approve of it. They liked that it should be kept in the same state. Thereupon he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: He who built a mosque for Allah, Allah would build a house for him like it in Paradise. (Sahih Muslim)
